How to Spoil Your Mum Rotten on Mother’s Day This Year

We think a mum should be treated like a queen every day, but Mother’s day is the time when you can really go that extra mile! From choosing the perfect card to deciding what to cook her for breakfast in bed, we have all the advice & ideas you could possible think of. Carry on reading to learn how to make every second of your mum’s day the best it can be.

Choosing the right card

There are many unique cards you can give to your mum, here are just a few examples. Why not go above and beyond and personally hand craft a card from start to finish, even create your own special envelope! The beauty with creating your own is it can look terrible and your mum will still love it, after all it’s the lengths you have gone to that count! Plus it’s great for saving the pennies, we all know how expensive cards are now days. An ideal option for those of you that are students.

mother

Is your mum a comedian, or like to think she is? Then why not go for a light hearted humour card, this is great if you cringe at the cheesy lines typical Mother’s Day cards have! Don’t just choose any old card, go for something that will still personally mean something to both you and your mum. Don’t worry there will still be room for you to write your own words inside, so you may not be able to get out of writing a few soppy lines!

Photo uploads cards are just fantastic, what’s more personal that your very own family photos along with your own words printed onto a card? This card will cost you the same as a standard card off the high-street shelf, and we think you get a lot more for your money. This is something your mum could keep forever, she could even put it in a frame to take a prized position on the wall!

At the end of the day we all have busy lives, you can still show your mum how much she means to you by purchasing a card from your local corner shop. If you’re purchasing this type of card spend time looking at each different card, look at which card is visually best suited to your mum. Most importantly pick a card with words that you would write yourself, you want your mum to know you mean what the words truly say.

What to cook

The Breakfast

Take your mum back to childhood by cooking her boiled egg ‘n’ soldiers, but make sure you get the egg nice and runny as you may be in for disappointment otherwise! Don’t panic its super easy to make a dippy egg, follow this quick and simple recipe to see just how http://www.eatliverun.com/how-to-make-perfect-soft-boiled-eggs-eggs-soldiers/ If you want to pull out all the stops don’t just stop at a food feast, treat her to a perfectly brewed tea (with only the best tea bags of course)! If your mum loves her liquor forget the Tea, serve her up Bloody Mary cocktail with a garnish of celery! Present on a perfectly laid out bean bag cushion tray for maximum comfort along with serviettes on the side, and then voilà you have a happy mum.

The Lunch

As we all know most Mums unfortunately will have to carry on with her normal weekly routine on Mother’s Day, this doesn’t mean you can’t treat her to a lunch. Be cute and make your Mum the best packed lunch in the whole wide world, just like she used to do for you when you were at school. Obviously choose a sandwich that you know she adores, although we must say our personal favourite is a chicken mayo. There’s nothing technical about a chicken mayonnaise sandwich so get your bread, butter, chicken and mayo and start building. We don’t need to tell you how to make a sandwich but be sure to include a cheeky packet of crisps, everybody knows a crisp is a sandwich’s best friend. A drink is a must so wiz together 2 cups of strawberries and one banana in a blender, pour in a bottle and you have the perfect smoothie to go!

The Dinner

Mother’s Day is on a Sunday this year so do the right thing and whip up a roast beef dinner fit for a king. Don’t skimp out on anything, be sure to pull out all the stops. We want to see the beef cooked to absolute perfection, check out this recipe to see how https://www.telegraph.co.uk/food-and-drink/recipes/the-ultimate-roast-beef/ accompany your beef with all the trimmings such as crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside roast potatoes, roast parsnips & carrots, pigs in blankets, stuffing (from a packet is more than okay for this one), steamed broccoli and finally extra beefy gravy. If you dish up this delicious meal for your Mum we guarantee she’ll by crying tears of joy.

What gift to get on a budget

A bouquet of flowers is more than enough as a Mother’s Day present, the right flowers will speak a thousand words. Flowers aren’t something most women buy themselves so it’s a great present to buy as a special treat. Most flowers will last around 2 weeks if looked after properly but why not suggest your mum takes a single flower to keep, this way she can have part of her present forever and ever! All you need to do is select a flower, place inside a book with parchment paper, weight it down and leave for 10 days and there you have it a beautiful pressed flower. The beauty of flowers is there are many different ranges to suit everybody’s budget!

What to do

Other than preparing the most amazing breakfast, lunch and dinner there are more things you can be doing to make your Mother’s day even more special. Don’t be fooled it’s not all about fancy spa breaks and trips away like Janet Jackson said ‘the best things in life are free’. That being said start by making a conscious effort to speak to your Mum as if she’s royalty and fetch her anything she asks for, make it clear that she won’t be lifting a finger all day long! Housework is a definite no no, if your Mum tries this quickly grab the hoover and get to work yourself. Nothing beats a candle lit bubble bath that has been run by someone else, so bring the day to a close by running her a bath just before bedtime. Be sure to supply her with her favourite books, candles, plus wine & chocolates if you’re feeling generous!
